Eliminating Racism & Empowering Women
Tuesday, October 27 from 5:30-7:30pm
This year the YWCA Madison, and their programs aimed at employment education & training for women, was the recipient of the proceeds from our Inaugural Expo. Join us at our October meeting where Jill Pfeiffer, Development & Marketing Director, will share information about what the YWCA Madison is doing to eliminate racism & empower women and how we can get involved.
YWCA Madison - As we look at the impact of sexism and racism, women, and particularly women of color, experience adverse economic impacts. By focusing on empowering women economically, YWCA Madison hopes to improve the economic wealth of individual families and our community. Women’s economic empowerment speaks to a woman’s ability to make strategic choices, improve her economic situation, and alter existing power structures that create barriers to economic justice. Economic empowerment is more than simply having a job. Our goal is to create economic justice that equals equity and fairness. YWCA Madison achieves these goals by providing employment and training programs and safe transportation solutions.
In addition, YWCA Madison offers a variety of training and workshops that provide hundreds of individuals, organizations, and businesses the opportunity to engage in social change through participation. These workshops and training classes help YWCA Madison fulfill its mission of eliminating racism and empowering women and move us towards building a more inclusive community.

WWE VIRTUAL 5th Friday Workshop
Telling your story well to promote yourself and your business.
Why stories? As Malcolm Gladwell put it, “It is safe to say that word of mouth is – even in this age of mass communications and multimillion-dollar advertising campaigns – still the most important form of human communication.”
In this session, we’ll explore the research on storytelling and its power to increase your work’s effectiveness and your organization’s bottom line. Why are stories more effective than data in getting people to change their buying habits, among others?
We’ll explore organizations that excel at telling their story and how they continue to do so. Is there a magical formula for success?
Next, we’ll do some hands-on work in crafting our own stories to build our businesses and retain customers, and a listing of storytelling resources will be shared with participants in electronic form.
Dr. Rebecca Christoffel owns Christoffel Conservation and holds positions with two local non-profits dedicated to reptile conservation. In a former life, she taught storytelling in her personal interpretation class at Iowa State University. Rebecca has been telling stories all of her life, and has used the power of storytelling to apply for jobs and grants and promote the conservation of wildlife.

If you plan to participate, your registration is needed by Sunday, November 1.
Remember the anticipation and excitement of opening gifts during the holidays when you were a kid?! Did you shake the box trying to figure out what was inside…or try to sneakily unwrap the gift and then rewrap it…or search for your parents secret hiding spot for everything? Let’s share some of that holiday cheer this year with your fellow WWE sisters during a virtual Secret Santa Gift Exchange event!
This event is not meant to stress you out or financially burden you. The intent is that this be a FUN event where we can virtually get together to share some laughs, friendship, and celebration over the holidays. We recommend keeping gift cost between $10-$15…or better yet, how about a handmade gift (e.g., homemade fudge, holiday ornament, coffee/tea).
Please read carefully & closely. Here’s how the event will work:
